He was raised in his hometown until moving, at the age of 18, to Los Angeles, California, to pursue a career in film directing.

In 2006, a year before finishing his studies, he won the Fotogramas award for his short film Coming to Town, thus beginning a prolific career as a short filmmaker that includes the multi-award-winning Sequence, winner of the Canal Plus Award in Clermont-Ferrand, and nominated at Sitges, Tribeca, and many other prestigious festivals.

At the age of 26, Torrens directed his first commercial film, Apartment 143, an international co-production written and produced by Rodrigo Cortés and released in over 30 countries.

Since then, he has directed two more feature films: Pet, shot entirely in Los Angeles with Dominic Monaghan as the lead, premiered at the South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, and winner of the Best Screenplay award at the Sitges Festival in 2016. In 2024 he shoots Apocalipsis Z: El principio del fin. This Nostromo Pictures and Amazon Prime production is based on the eponymous bestseller by Manel Loureiro. In 2025 Apocalipsis Z: Part II is produced.

Since 2018, Torrens has been residing in Spain, where he has directed episodes for the television series Vis a Vis, Malaka, El Ministerio del Tiempo, El Internado: Las Cumbres, Feria, Sky Rojo, and Citas: Barcelona.
